Reason for being involved in workshop: Miami is a very unique place in the US in terms of diversity, as any room that you walk into is likely to be much more diverse than in other cities. I am passionate about the potential we have for building an inclusive tech ecosystem, but we still have work to do, including with the voices that we elevate at events. I think the Global Diversity CFP day is a perfect fit for Miami, as we have several large and small tech conferences throughout the year and I'd love to see more diverse voices be represented. Several of the members of the Global Shapers Miami Hub would take this on as an organizing team, and I'm confident our strong relationships throughout the local tech community will help us make it a success.
About Rebecca: I am based in Miami, FL, and have background in social entreneurship, startups, and the tech community. I previously managed a coworking space for tech companies here in Miami, and over the last few months have been making a transition to web development. I've been heavily involved in our local startup & tech community for the last two years and am very passionate about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community. I'm also part of the local Global Shapers hub, which works on several focus areas including DEI, environment and sustainability, and civic engagement (and several of our members also work in tech). I also volunteer with Code/Art, a local nonprofit that encourages young girls to get involved with coding/STEM, and am an organizer of our local 1 Million Cups chapter.
Reason for being involved in workshop: To support the representation of minority communities in tech.
